Every blow to the Diad gate reverberated violently through my body until I no longer knew if I quaked with anticipation, fear, or from the force of the effort. Hours seemed to pass as we steadily tore through the thick timber, Lastabad soldiers glaring malevolently out at us between the breaks; our most powerful sorcerers stood ready to unleash torrents of magical energy in offense, having already taken out the majority of the Diad bowmen from atop the gate wall. Waves upon waves of dark ones poured out from the Diad Fortress as we brought the gates down, as eager for our blood as we were for their demise – we fiercely ripped through their onslaught, heading toward the Diad Guardian Tower.

Frantic shouts from the west drew our attentions away from the tower – Baranka and Laia, the ruthless Lastabad elite generals, had been sighted! A lone scout ran toward us from the west, bellowing out a rallying cry.

Thomas?! I stood frozen, unable to move as Baranka charged toward my brother and cut him down in one fell swoop; screams came from the east as Laia cleaved through our remaining pledgemates. How foolish we were to think we’d be able to do this alone! We must have help, we must have more numbers, we must save Aden from the coming darkness!
