DESCRIPTION OF TA: SPRING

TA: Spring is a GPL-licensed open source realtime strategy game engine that supports models and mods made for Cavedog's Total Annihilation. The engine is fully 3D and has a realistic physics model that enables such things as the shrapnel from exploding units dealing collateral damage to other nearby units.

The engine also supports things such as radar coverage and line of sight (both affected by terrain), queuing of orders and construction, experience and cloaking, among many other things.

The game comes with an online multiplayer lobby client that allows you to set up battles with multiple human and AI players. The players can be split into teams, or one or more players can play with the same units. The game also allows you to share resources and units with other players during a battle, or to draw battle plans on the minimap.

The engine currently only supports Windows, though a Linux port is in the making and might already be finished as you are reading this.

The Spring site has links to multiple great mods converted to the Spring engine. These include XTA, Absolute Annihilation (AA), Final Frontier and many others. Maps are also available in abundance, with more maps appearing all the time.
